Mold Can’t Hide from the Trained Canine Nose
Tuesday, December 7th, 2010
Most people know what mold looks like, whether it’s blue spots on bread or cheese, black grout in the bathroom tile, or the fuzzy multi-colored coating on something that’s been in the fridge way too long.
But what happens if you have mold in your home that you can’t see? Maybe you can smell it, and that might give you a clue as to what general part of the house it’s in, but it doesn’t really tell you exactly where it is.
People sometimes spend many thousands of dollars on mold inspections that still never find the source of the problem. And that’s even worse if someone is sick, because hidden mold is just as unhealthy as mold you can see.
There is really only one thing that can do it – a mold-detecting dog.
Of course, since you’re here, you already know 1-800-GOT-MOLD? uses dogs, but we never get tired of talking and writing about them. You’re still here, so obviously you haven’t gotten tired of reading about them.
Here’s a piece on mold-sniffing dogs we published in our print magazine, Habitat Quarterly. Enjoy.
